Integrative approaches for multi-criteria evaluation of practices

Integrative evaluation of agricultural practices. From field to planet: evaluating the global impact of agriculture

Understanding a small-scale process is one thing, but what is its global impact? This second research line uses the knowledge acquired on fundamental mechanisms to evaluate the large-scale consequences of agricultural practices. We develop integrative approaches to measure effects on climate, air quality, ecosystem health, and even human population exposure. To move from the field to the region or the planet, we use and improve complex models (such as CERES-EGC, cadastre/volt'air, ORCHIDEE). By feeding them with experimental data, we can simulate scenarios and evaluate the impact of different agricultural strategies before deploying them in the field. This approach allows us to provide decision-making tools for farmers and public policies.
